Nickname: Maso

Role: mast/bow

Background: I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and have been sailing my entire life.

Been part of the Wild Oats program for around 12 years and position myself mainly around the mast and bow, coordinating manoeuvres between the crew on the bow and at the stern.

Number of Hobart races: I choose not to count but if I had to guess I would say somewhere between 12 and 15.

Being on the start line on Boxing Day: There’s adrenalin for sure; you must concentrate on your job to ensure that you’re doing it well. It’s a big team effort onboard and it only takes one person onboard a boat of 20 crew to have a little lapse of judgement and it snowballs from there.
